Notes for: Johan Bergen
He and his family were given a one-year passport in May 1813 to leave Kronsgarten to go to one of the other villages in the Chortitza Colony to seek work since he didn't have a farm in Kronsgarten per Odessa Archives, Fund 6, Inventory 1, File 607. In the 1814 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed as a landless resident in Kronsweide (B. H. Unruh, p. 280). In the Oct 1816 Census he is listed at Kronsweide #12 in the household of George Nickel (b. ca 1748) #199232. In the 1816 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Kronsgarten #12 with his mother and siblings (Karl Stumpp, p. 874). The ages of his wife and him were incorrectly switched in the 1816 Kronsgarten Census. In the 1805 immigration list his age is given as 18, suggesting that he was born ca 1787 (P. Rempel, p. 96). In the 1814 Census his age is given as 26, suggesting that he was born ca 1788. In the Oct 1816 Census his age is given as 27, suggesting that he was born ca 1789.
